Mr. George W. Dewhurst, age 88 years, of Saugus, died Thursday, November 17, 2011. He leaves his wife Leona V. (Watson) Dewhurst. Born in Paoli, Indiana to the late John and Nora Dewhurst, George was a graduate of Paoli High School, class of 1942. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the U.S.S. Shangri La and the U.S.S. Ranger. During the Korean Conflict, he was a Gunner Sgt. In the United States Marines. He was a member of Bethlehem Lodge of Masons, Sutton Chapter, Past Master of Zebulon Council, Past Commander of Olivet Commandry #36 and Alepo Temple of Shriners. He worked at General Electric River works for thirty seven years as a tool and die machinist. Mr. Dewhurst enjoyed the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots, and bowled on many GE and Lynn Church Leagues. He was the father of Carolyn L. Stowell and her husband David of Gloucester, George L. Dewhurst and his wife Marsha of Alton, NH and Ronald Dewhurst of Bradford. . He was the brother of Lucy Gatlin and her husband Wes of Indianapolis, Indiana and Elsie Prosser of West Baden, Indiana, and brother in law of Elizabeth Dewhurst of Beverly. He also leaves his seven grandchildren, Sean Dewhurst and Dawn Smallcanyon, both of Colorado, Michael Dewhurst of Middleboro, David Stowell and Jacquelyn Blanchette both of Gloucester, Bobby Paquette of Middleton and Heidi Colclough of Bradford; his eight great grandchildren, Kayla Smallcanyon and Tarra Kingsley, Christopher Dewhurst, Shaina and Chyanne Stowell, Kayla Williams, Stephanie and Haley Blanchett; and his great great grand daughter Kiyah Blanchette. He was the brother of the late Robert E. Dewhurst, his twin, John Dewhurst, Emma Kelly, Stella Kesler, Mary Glass and Esther Kendell, and the grandfather of the late Michelle Paquette and Heather Kraus. His funeral will be held on Monday at 10:30AM in the SOLIMINE, LNDERGAN & RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt129) Lynn. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30AM. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1123 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930
