Duffney, George Sonny Jr., 99, of Weymouth, passed away August 21, 2022. George was born and raised in East Weymouth, to the late George W. Duffney, Sr. and Kathleen (Ryan) Duffney. He attended Weymouth High School s Sheet Metal Vocational Program, Class of 1940. Upon graduating high school, George became a proud United States Navy World War II veteran, honorably discharged as a Petty Officer First Class. George raised his family in North Weymouth, and resided in his home for 61 years. He worked for many years as a sheet metal worker for Bethlehem Steel, and as an apprentice instructor for General Dynamics. George enjoyed boating, ballroom dancing, aviation, civil war history, writing poetry and making model planes and ships. He was a humble and sentimental man who will be dearly missed by all.
Beloved husband of the late Miriam (McNeil) Duffney. Loving father of George W. Duffney, III and his wife Suzanne and Donna O Neill, all of Weymouth. Dear brother of Mary Jane Heslin of CT and Joseph Duffney of Weymouth, predeceased by siblings; Alice Weaver, Robert Duffney and Lucille Kay Cobb. Proud Bap and Grandpa to Steven McCloskey and his wife Kelly of Weymouth, Alison Duffney of Pembroke and Melissa Duffney, Colin Duffney and Tim O Neill all of Weymouth and 4 great grandchildren; Kellan, Lincoln, Conall and Aniston. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A Bicknell Square). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Monday prior, to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
