George Garnett, age 80, of Valdosta, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on July 14, 1945, in Milo, Maine, George was the son of the late Hadley George Garnett and Phyllis Goodwin Garnett.
George dedicated much of his life to serving others. He proudly worked as a firefighter for the City of Valdosta for 30 years, demonstrating courage and commitment to his community. After retiring from the fire department, he continued his career with Sears for 19 years and later was associated with JC Cowart and Co for several more years. His strong work ethic and friendly demeanor touched many throughout his life.
A faithful member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church, George was deeply involved in his church community and cherished his faith.
George is survived by his wife, Rachel Coody Garnett of Valdosta; his son, Jerry Garnett and wife Gail, also of Valdosta; his grandson, Trent Michael Garnett of Valdosta; and his great-grandchild, Matthew Tucker Garnett also of Valdosta. He is also survived by his sisters, Jacqueline Willinski and Linda Cray (William), both of Maine.
A funeral service to honor George’s life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday evening, November 14, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
