George Walden Johnson, age 85, of Mankato, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on March 19, 2024, at the Pillars of Mankato. 

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Internment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato at a later date. The service will be livestreamed and available on George’s obituary page at www.mankatomortuary.com.

George Walden, the son of George L., and Audra (Schneider) Johnson, was born on October 4, 1938, in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1957. George married Audrey Sanborn on October 17, 1959. He was employed at Mankato Area Public Schools and Maple River Schools for over 30 years. He also worked at the First Presbyterian Church in Mankato for 20 years, before retiring in 2019. George enjoyed gardening and tending to his fish pond and his flowers. He adored his children and grandchildren and he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. George’s sense of humor, his fun-loving spirit, his kind heart and his delicious cooking, will be cherished by all. 

George is survived by his children, Karla Johnson, Blaine (Cate) Johnson, Darrin (Kim) Johnson, Dan Johnson, Sara (Troy) Dahms, and Eric Johnson (Fiance` Karla Boone), all of Mankato; grandchildren, Nick (Becky), Tyler (Dani), Crista, Travis, Colin (Kenna), Lacey Hagen (special friend Jesse), Mackenzie (special friend, Jacob), Savanna Dahms (special friend, Jacob), Colton (Brittany), Tanner (special friend, Madeline), Jaden Dahms and Rhyse; 15 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Sandy Johnson, and his beloved orange tabby cat, Walter. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Audrey, two infant sons, granddaughter, Lexi Hagen, great-granddaughter, Billie Johnson, sister, Shirley Thomas and brother, Larry Johnson; and parents George and Audra.
