George B. Johnson, a respected veteran, and passionate outdoorsman, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, in Dover, Delaware. Born on March 24, 1937, in Newton, New Jersey, George's journey through life was marked by dedication, service, and an appreciation for travel.
George, the son of George and Kathryn Johnson, grew up alongside his siblings, John and Judy, in the heart of New Jersey where he attended Hackettstown High School. His thirst for knowledge took him to Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia, where he furthered his education.
After honorably serving his country in the US Army in Germany, George transitioned to civilian life with the same commitment and integrity. His early career as a contract truck driver paved the way to a long-standing position at Air Products. There, he not only excelled as a dispatcher but also played a pivotal role in establishing a nationwide logistics program, showcasing his analytical skills and innovative thinking.
George's personal life was as fulfilling as his professional endeavors. He was married to his dedicated and loving wife, Sandra, for nearly 30 years.
George's children Jennifer (Andre), George (Donna), Louise (Gerry), Michael (Stacey), Karen (Eric) gifted George with a legacy of grandchildren - Alexa (Johnathan), Brody, Luke, Justin (Lily), Madison, Elizabeth, Justin, Alyssa, Christina, Gerry, Sarah, Jennifer, and Andrew, as well as his beloved great-grandchildren. George's role as a grandfather was one he cherished, often crafting hand-made wooden gifts for them, each piece a testament to his handy and creative spirit.
In 2013, George and Sandy established their roots in Delaware, where they were able to be closer to family. Their shared interests led them on many adventures, from traveling in their RVs to casting lines in serene waters, as George was an avid fisherman with a particular fondness for fly fishing. His love for woodworking was more than a hobby; it was a channel through which he expressed his love for his family and friends.
A collector of firearms, George appreciated the history and craftsmanship behind each piece. His analytical mind found joy in games of skill, whether it was a strategic hand in blackjack or the lively throw of dice in craps. Above all, George was a staunch Buffalo Bills fan, embodying the team spirit with enthusiasm and loyalty.
Today, as we remember George, we celebrate the countless memories he has left behind. His journey has now come to a peaceful end, leaving behind fond memories that will live on.
