HALLOWELL - George Jovin, 78, of Hallowell, Maine, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at home with loved ones by his side. Born in 1946 in Acushnet MA, George was a man of independence, strength, integrity, and honor.

Throughout his life, he displayed a remarkable work ethic, both in his personal endeavors and in his 30+ years as a proud member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, & Reinforcing Iron Workers (Local 37 Providence, Local 496 Maine, and Local 7 Boston). Had health issues not forced his retirement, he'd surely have been on the iron until the end. George was a man who believed in dedication and the value of hard work.

After retiring from the Union, George continued to stay active, always finding ways to support his family, friends, and community. A fervent jack of all trades, he could and would maintain, create, or repair anything and everything. He was a proud veteran of the US Army, achieving the rank of Corporal. George's military service shaped many of the values he held dear. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

George is survived by his loving wife of nearly 53 years, Martha, his children Nathan Matthew and Shannon of Hallowell, his grandchildren Eben Noah Ruby and Maden, his sister Jeannette Taylor of Fairhaven MA, and many nieces and nephews - he will be especially missed by Michael Eadie and his son Henry, of Narragansett, RI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Jovin Jr. and Henriette Jovin, his sisters Theresa Oliver and Doris Gazda, his nephew Christopher Eadie, his daughter Lori Ann, and his grandson Casey.

His memory will be cherished by those who knew him, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.

We invite you to leave memories and upload photos to George's memorial page at www.staplesfuneralhome.com in order to share and celebrate his life. Your stories and pictures will help to keep George's memory alive for future generations, and they will provide a source of comfort and connection for those who loved him.

Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine.

A celebration of life will be held in the afternoon Friday October 17.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Maine chapter of Disabled American Veterans, a cause George was a steadfast supporter of in life.
