George Vincent Kirk was born in New York City in 1947 to George Kirk (formerly Kirichenko) and Martha Kirk (nee Grimaldi) where he grew up with a large extended family and many friends. When his father's position took the family to Africa in 1962 with the Department of State Foreign Service, he went to Rome to attend high school at the Notre Dame International School, where he also made life-long friends. In 1964, the family returned to Bethesda, Maryland, where he graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. George completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 1975.
George worked in Parole and Probation (P&P) for the State of Maryland for forty years, retiring in 2016. He participated in the pilot Home Detention Program for P&P and Corrections Supervisors and, as part of that program, graduated second in his class from the Maryland State Police Academy. At different times, he supervised offices in Silver Spring, Frederick, and Western Maryland. While he retired as a Field Supervisor II, he derived his greatest satisfaction from being a P&P Agent, working directly with offenders whose successes he followed long after they left his office.
George was actively involved in Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church for over thirty years and was a Lay Servant. He participated in many community organizations and boards, taking his responsibilities as citizen and steward very seriously. George loved living in Frederick County, where he married and raised his son, the joy of his life! He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, concerts in the park, supporting local businesses and activities, cooking and watching football. He was a loving father, husband, son, and brother, and he treasured his friendships. From a young age, George appreciated traveling and being exposed to different cultures, especially with his son. His favorite time, however, was going to his home-away-from-home in Broadkill Beach, DE, where he spent many happy summers and autumns.
George passed surrounded by loved ones in University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore at the age of 77. The family is grateful for the exceptional care he received from Dr. Mouhamad S. Bazzi of Frederick, MD and the whole staff in the Neuro-ICU at the hospital. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his grandmother, Anna Grimaldi and many extended family members. He is survived by his son, George Michael Kirk, his ex-wife Trena Little Kirk, her daughter Brittany Witt and her husband Brandon and children Brantley and Emmerson, his sister Frances Kirk Tucker and many beloved friends all over the world.
A viewing will be held at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 4 - 7 pm. The funeral service will be held at Mt.
