George Lappan Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 11, 2024.
0n July 4, 2024, George Joseph Lappan passed away after a long illness.
Born on January 20, 1941, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, New York, George was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Mary Lappan. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha (Marsocci), his sons James (Paige) and Joseph (Penny) and his grandchildren, Joey and Emma.
A member of the first graduating class of McQuaid Jesuit High School, George graduated from LeMoyne College and Syracuse University prior to service as an air intercept controller in the Tonkin Gulf aboard U.S.S. Chicago (CG-11). Following a 23-year Naval career as an unrestricted line officer and public affairs officer, George retired from Rochester Gas & Electric in 2000 as manager of corporate communications. He then relocated to Florida and, continuing to support his fellow veterans, became involved with the American Legion Honor Guard in Lady Lake. In a life that absorbed many changes of scenery and service, there was one constant: the love affair and partnership with Martha that championed the importance of family above all else. A devoted, generous and thoughtful man, George lived 83 years. He showed up every time. He walked a definitive line – speaking plainly, acting consistently. He completed every mission. And now, he is home.
