George Washington Lemons

George Washington Lemons, age 83, of Ellamore, WV, died Monday, February 23, 2026, at his home. He was born February 22, 1943, in Adrian, WV, a son of the late Percy Alvin and Genevieve Virginia Pumphrey Lemons. On July 22, 1966, he married Linda Lee Talbott who survives him. Also surviving are one son, George Lemons II of Ellamore, two daughters: Carrie Naughton of Union, KY, and Cynthia Cutlip of Buckhannon, WV; five grandchildren: Allison Naughton and significant other Anthony Zeller of Union, KY, Abigail Naughton of Radford, VA, Joshua Cutlip of Buckhannon, Olivia Cutlip of Buckhannon, Amber Hurtt and husband Tim of Maine; six great grandchildren: [Joshua's children] Bentley, Alec, and Naomi, [Olivia's children] Mikinley and Ezra, [Amber's daughter] Elizabeth, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters, one great granddaughter, Pypur Rae Cutlip; and one nephew, Shawn Shaw. Mr. Lemons served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1966, during the Vietnam War. He was a patriot with great love for his country, flag, and community. He spent over 49 years in the oil and gas industry. In addition to his distinguished career, he was a journeyman electrician, an avid hunter, and outdoorsman. Mr. Lemons was a devout Christian and attended the Rowan Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a Lay speaker for the Methodist Conference for over 20 years, and he loved Bluegrass Gospel and classic hymns. He was also one of the founding members of the Washington District Fire Department in Tallmansville, WV. To honor his wishes, Mr. Lemons will be cremated and a graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date at Mt. Nebo Methodist Cemetery.
