With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of George Thomas Luskey (Tom)-a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend-on May 4, 2025, at the age of 79.
Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Oxon Hill, Maryland, Tom grew up alongside his beloved sister, Mary, in a home filled with laughter and the values of hard work and kindness. He graduated from Oxon Hill High School in 1964, already known for his quick wit and generous spirit.
Tom's life was a testament to perseverance and service. He began his career at the U.S. Post Office but soon answered a higher calling, serving his country as a helicopter mechanic in the U.S. Army. The discipline and dedication he learned in the military shaped the rest of his life. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Tom worked full-time while attending night classes at George Mason University, ultimately earning his degree in accounting. His relentless drive led him to a distinguished career in federal service, where he earned his CPA and became a trusted mentor and friend to many. He retired in 2004, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and hard work.
But Tom's story was so much more than his career. He was a man of many passions: a lover of westerns and cowboy culture, a competitor in weightlifting, a dancer who could light up any room, a savvy stock trader, and a lifelong fan of the Redskins/Commanders. He approached every interest with the same enthusiasm and curiosity that he brought to all aspects of his life.
Above all, Tom's greatest joy was his family. He was a steadfast presence at every milestone, a patient teacher, and a source of unwavering support. Though distance and age kept his grandchildren far away, Tom treasured their FaceTime calls, delighting in every shared smile, story, and laugh. Whether he was recounting tales from his youth or simply enjoying a quiet moment with a loved one, Tom made everyone feel special and deeply loved.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Charlotte Luskey, whose values he carried forward every day. Tom leaves behind his daughter, Donna Tamborski (Scott), and his son, Craig Luskey (Amanda); his grandchildren: Samantha Tamborski, Matthew Lovegrove (Erika), Brody Sibbett, Craig Luskey Jr., and Augustus Luskey; and his great-grandchildren: Konrad Rochna, Adeline Lovegrove, and Liam Lovegrove. Tom also leaves behind two sons not by blood but by lifelong friendship in Shahid Qamar and Patrick Joun. Each of them carries a piece of his spirit-his humor, his resilience, and his boundless capacity for love.
Tom's legacy is one of strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He taught us to work hard, to laugh often, and to cherish every moment. He truly was the best example of what it means to be a great man, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Rest easy, Tom. Your story continues in all of us.
