George R. Lyons Sr. was born on September 6, 1934, in Baldwin, Louisiana to George Lyons and Ellen Hatcherson-Smith-Richardson-Lyons.

After graduating high school, he joined the United States Air Force and served 20 years. During this time, he met and would later marry Tommie D. Ferguson. To this union of 48 years, they had four children George Jr., Tina, Monica, and Theresa.

After 20 years of service, He retired from the Air Force, he worked for the W. R. Poage Federal building in Soil Conservation for 10 years but left to care for his wife. Later, he worked at Temple College for 32 years. In his spare time, he loved working on his lawn. He also enjoyed watching cooking shows, westerns, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He went home to be with his Lord and wife on June 10th, 2025, at a local hospital surrounded by family. He was 90 years old.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Lyons and Ellen Hatcherson-Smith-Richardson-Lyons, Tommie D. Lyons (wife), five brothers, Henry Richardson, James Richardson, Herbert Richardson, Lewis Richardson, and Aaron Richardson; Four sisters, Lucille Richardson McCoy, Octavia Richardson-Peoples, Esther Richardson-Gabriel, and Thelma Richardson.

He leaves to cherish his memories one son George Lyons Jr., three daughters Tina Lyons, Monica Lyons-Harris, and Theresa Cloud. Five grandchildren Teisha Lyons-Atkinson, Dawann McIntyre, O'Dell Lyons-Harris, Monica McIntyre, and Brittany Harris. Two great-grandchildren, Skylar Atkinson and Jailynn Atkinson; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives.
