George Maisel Obituary

George Ray Maisel of Eldersburg, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Med Star Harbor Hospital, surrounded by family. Ray was born on December 8, 1940, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Louis and Addie White Maisel. He was the loving husband of 65 years to Carolyn (Barbour) Maisel. Ray was raised in Catonsville, Maryland. His father Louis was a Fire Marshall with the Baltimore County Fire Department, and Ray followed in his footsteps choosing a career in the fire department as well. Ray and Carol raised two daughters, Debbie and Karen. He retired as a Lieutenant with the Baltimore County Fire Department after 30 years. Ray enjoyed fishing, trips to Punta Gorda, watching the Orioles, listening to classic country music, and watching and feeding birds. Most important to him was family, especially his children and grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters Debbie Wiseman and husband Bob, of Eldersburg, MD, and Karen Sterner and husband Jay, of Spring Grove, PA. He is survived as well by grandchildren: Andrew Smith, Jay Sterner II, and Jenna Sterner. He is also survived by his sister, Elsie Paddy. He was predeceased by siblings Addie Belle (Maisel) Dauber, Dorothy (Maisel) Reis, Nancy (Maisel) Bloomer, and Louis Maisel. The family will receive friends from 10 AM to 11AM on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville with a funeral service following at 11AM. Luncheon at 12 PM at Wards Chapel United Methodist Church, 11023 Liberty Road, Randallstown. Interment will follow the luncheon (2:30 PM) at Good Shepherd Cemetery, 2805 Rogers Avenue, Ellicott City.
