Dear George and family, our hearts go out to you for the loss of a wonderful person. Nick first met your dad and was always speaking with admiration about him still being a referee. Your mom and dad welcomed Nick and me years ago on thanksgiving in Tremblant where your mom prepared us a traditional thanksgiving diner with sweet patatoes. Their warmth and openness made us feel very welcome. Years later we spend 2 holidays together with your dad and our children on Curaçao. Lovely memories of drinking cocktails together and discussing American politics. His walking was maybe a bit slow at that time, his thinking and political analysis were not. He showed a lot of engagement to his country and to the people around him. Our children still talk about his kindness. We were hoping we could spend another holiday together on Curaçao soon, but life decided otherwise. Your dad was in very good hands with you and we trust he is with your mom right now. We'll have to go on without him. His energy, engagement and kindness will keep on inspiring us. Wishing you lots of strength and warmth to fill up the gap he will definitely leave in your lives. Lot of love, Nick, Beryl, Nicolaas and Alexandra

I spent many, many holidays with Uncle George and Aunt Irene, as well as Debbie and George. We had spirited debates over many of life's little pleasures, from ethnic foods to football and basketball. As a child, I attended Painesville Harvey football games with my father and Uncle George. Of course, Uncle George spent decades as a high school sports official, and I'd occasionally catch a game that he "reffed." Then, warming up for one of my own high school games, I heard a familiar voice from behind me: "45 ... you better play a clean game!" That was a special thrill, to know that the man I battled for the turkey leg at Thanksgiving was going to be calling my game. Be at peace, Uncle George. Much love.

I am sorry to hear of Mr. Marko's death. He was my very first principal that I worked under and he was always so patient and kind. He did not hover over your shoulder constantly or interfere in your classroom. He trusted you to know what you were doing and to do it without his interference. He did however, provide wonderful guidance and sage wisdom, especially to a brand new teacher just starting out in her career. I remember my years of working under him fondly. My sympathy to both of you, his children, and to his extended family. He was a wonderful man. Kay Feiten

Mr. Marko was my 6th grade teacher at Lowden School. He was kind and read to us frequently after lunch. I remember him fondly.

Dear Debbi and Georgie,

The fondest memory I have of uncle George was him asking me every holiday, Sherry Dee, did you make the Halupki? Now he knew that the Halupki sent me to the ER a couple of times and I wasn't interested in learning how to make it. But he was relentless and loved to tease me. Those are special times at holiday family dinners and I will always keep them in my heart. The dinners were always at 1 o'clock at my mothers and there were so many of us that it we had to have two different tables but it was some thing I looked forward to.

I can't be sorry for uncle George because now he's reunited with your mom and Many other relatives that have gone before. We love you and are praying for peace for both of you.
Love, Sherry Dee

Deb & Georgie,
You know we loved uncle George so much and aunt Irene as well. He loved to tease me! Every holiday he always asked, Sherry Dee, did you make the Halupki? Now he knew that Halupki had caused me to go to the ER a couple of times. So I was not interested in making Halupki! But he was relentless. I will always treasure the memories of family dinners every holiday at 1:00 pm. at my Mother's house with you and your parents. It was a special time! Take comfort in knowing that your parents are reunited with each other and many others that have gone before them! Now they will forever be with the Lord! We love you both and are praying for you & extended family!
