George McCutchen Obituary
January 20, 1945 - July 31, 2025
Columbia, South Carolina - George Thomas McCutchen, Jr., died to this life on Thursday, July 31, 2025. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 4, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter St, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends after the service in Satterlee Hall.
Mr. McCutchen was born on January 20, 1945, at Fort McClellan. He was the son of Dr. George T McCutchen, Sr. and Elizabeth Heyward McCutchen Hampton. He graduated from AC Flora high school, where he was a multi-year All-State football player. He attended Georgia Tech, where he played football, and graduated from the University of South Carolina. He was a lifelong member and lay-reader at Trinity Episcopal.
Surviving are his sisters, Betsy Williams and Jane Brown, and his son, George T McCutchen III, daughter-in-law, Shannon McCutchen, and grandchildren, Thomas McCutchen IV, Lee McCutchen, and Ellen McCutchen.
George's love of bird hunting, the outdoors, golf, and history entertained many.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201.
