George McKay Obituary

George Edward McKay, Jr.
10/12/2024
In Loving Memory of George E. McKay, Jr., September 23rd, 1950 - October 12th, 2024.
After a heroic battle with cancer, on October 12th, we said goodbye to George McKay, Jr. Throughout his fight, he maintained his sense of humor and was always ready with a clever quip. Known for his warmth, humor, and steady presence, George brought compassion and resilience to every aspect of his life, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.
George was born to George, Sr. and Marie McKay in the Bronx. He spent his early life growing up in the Bronx rooting for the New York Yankees and Mickey Mantle. After moving to Long Island, he eventually settled in New Milford, CT.
After graduating from New Milford High School, George remained rooted in New Milford area, first working for McNulty Trucking and then for Kimberly Clark. He started in the warehouse at KC, working his way up to become a Trainer and eventually retire from Human Resources after many years with the company. His outgoing personality and gift for gab were perfectly suited for the roles he took. He was known for creating training programs, but also for his sense of humor, practical jokes, and making a good pot of coffee.
George was well known in the New Milford area. He was a member of the New Milford Jaycees, a Little League Coach, a bowler in many leagues, and a mainstay at the local Dunkin Donuts. He loved his family very deeply and valued spending time with them above all else. He made it a point to check in regularly with his loved ones, and never forgot to send a birthday or holiday card to his grandchildren. He was a fan of Marvel and DC Comics, Star Wars, sports, and attending old car shows with family.
George is survived by three sons, Jason McKay and his wife Julie of New Preston, Seann McKay and his wife Jessica of Oxford, and Ian McKay of New Milford: two daughters, Cheylene Artiles and her husband Juan of Waxhaw, NC and Chelsea McKay of New Milford. He is survived by two brothers, Joseph McKay of New Milford and Steven McKay of New Milford: two sisters, Janet Carlson of Tucson, AZ and Nancy Sterry of New Milford. George is also survived by eight grandchildren. For the last five years, Fran Turner had been his steadfast, loving partner who offered him strength after his diagnosis and remained by his side until the end. He was predeceased by his brother Frederick McKay of Derby.
Even though we miss him deeply, his light and laughter will always be in our hearts.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday November 10th at the New Milford VFW at 11 Avery Road from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The family will receive friends to share stories and memories that George created throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Animal Welfare Society in New Milford.

When my husband and I were transferred to the K-C facility in New Milford, George was one of the first to help me get settled. He was always there with a cute story or joke. And, he always called me in the afternoon to let me know there was a fresh pot of coffee ready. Our deepest sympathies. Prayers for the family. He will be truly missed.

We are so saddened to hear of George´s passing. He made me feel so welcome when I started at K-C and was always fun to talk to and be around. I can still hear his voice and laughter. Our condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace dear George.
