George Milldrum, 93, of Badger, SD, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 4, 2024, at his residence on Lake Poinsett, SD.
George was born on August 26, 1930 in Plaquemine, LA and grew up in the Highland Park suburb of Dallas, TX. A grade ahead of George at Highland Park High School were college and professional football greats Bobby Layne and Doak Walker.
He was a proud Air Force veteran of the Korean War era and valued his service with the American Legion. After discharge from the service George attended and graduated from
South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. After sales careers at several large companies, George retired as an actuary with Blue Cross / Blue Shield in 1986 and shortly thereafter moved to their lake place on Lake Poinsett and later established a residence in Badger.
While stationed stateside during the Korean War he met the love of his life Phyllis Erks.
They were married on December 22, 1952 and raised three children. He relished in the activities of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren – always quick to share stories of their successes with others.
George's beloved wife Phyllis passed away on November 3, 2022.
Left to celebrate his life is a son Morrie (Lucy) Milldrum, Greeley, CO. daughters, Sandra (Steven) Verbeski of Urbandale, IA, and Catherine (Kyle) Stilwell of Ponca, NE, grandchildren, Corissa (Paul) DeRose, Matthew (Illianna) Milldrum, Skyler (Jennifer) Stilwell and Wyatt Stilwell, great-grandchildren, Brooklyn DeRose, Jaycee and Brody Stilwell.
