He was a wonderful man, larger than life. He gave much to many people.
I loved, admired and even feared George.
I had the privilege to sing in George's choir at Redeemer for a short while. I lived next door for a short while.
My desire for choral singing was whetted by this. I have sung in other choirs since.
I read with serious interest his posts on Facebook.
I taught his three children at preschool. They were wonderful, each unique.

I will always be grateful to George for letting me join the Redeemer choir. While I often struggled to sing, I learned that how I sang wasn't the most important part of worship. It was the corporate Body of Christ praising God together that brought down glory from on high to minister to all who attended the services and those who listened to the recordings.
George also brought out a gift I had not exercised much before: the ability to write parodies to help lighten up many evenings of intense rehearsals. He championed my writing skills by asking me to re-write some of the lyrics to songs that were included in Songs for Celebration, so as to be more inclusive of all people regardless of sex or creed. In addition, he featured some of my songs in our corporate worship.
For someone who never felt free to sing in public, being part of the Redeemer choir was life-changing. The grace to make mistakes was offered to me, especially by the trained voices embedded around me in the first soprano section. This was yet one more redemptive experience I had while a member of the Church of the Redeemer.

Thanks George for often allowing the singles of Truro to gather at your lovely home. I'll never forget your generosity and your family especially Sarah whose love of Christ's flock was so sincere.
