Captain George Roby Moore

Captain George "Roby" Moore, age 73, of Knoxville, TN, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Roby was of the Baptist faith and a devoted UT football fan. Before his retirement, he dedicated 34 years to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, where he built a long and distinguished career in law enforcement. Friends and colleagues would say of Roby, "We lost a legend. One of the best leaders and mentors of the Knox County Sheriff's Office. He enjoyed sharing stories of his career that had everyone laughing. His stories were endless, and his loyalty unmatched." Preceded in death by his parents, Jack M. and Trula Moore; and brothers, Michael W. Moore and Daniel B. Moore. Roby is survived by his loving wife, Donna Ruth Moore; brother-in-law, Calvin Sharp (Sonja); sister-in-law, Shirley Shive; and many beloved nephews, nieces, and Godsons. The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Association in memory of Roby.
