George Thomas Morgan, 80, a longtime resident of Southwest Michigan, passed away peacefully on Oct. 24, 2025, at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, Mich.
George was born on Sept. 19, 1945, in New York City, to Charles and Margaret (O'Brien) Morgan. As one of four children, he was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Donald, Charles and Robert.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Arlene; his daughters: Amanda (Mike) Creeden, Jessica Morgan, Kristie (Michael) Dinsmore; and his cherished grandchildren: Anna Dinsmore, Matthew Dinsmore, Natalie Ashbrook and Nicholas Kronsnicki.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, George earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Tri-State University. He went on to build a long and respected career at Gast Manufacturing, where he was admired for his technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and good-natured personality.
George made his home in St. Joseph with his first wife, Cecilia, with whom he had two daughters: Amanda and Jessica. He loved taking road trips with the girls, often driving from Michigan to Virginia to visit his brother and family. Every journey was an adventure filled with amusement parks and scenic attractions.
George was an avid cyclist. He had a longstanding tradition of venturing out for long rides on Saturday mornings with his friends. He was an active member of the Three Oaks Spokes Bicycle Club, the founding organization of the Apple Cider Century ride. Over the years, he participated in events such as the Hilly Hundred, GRABAAWR, TOSRV, and RAGBRAI, culminating in one of his proudest accomplishments: completing the Triple Bypass in Colorado, a grueling 110-mile ride reaching an elevation of 15,000 feet in a single day.
George married Arlene in 1999 and together they shared a life of love and companionship for 26 years. Highlights of their travels included scenic bike routes, national parks, a trip to England, and family vacations with the Dinsmores. At home, George delighted in tinkering, fixing and improving things – always applying his engineering know-how to everyday challenges. Whether it was a household repair or a clever new project, he took pride in making things work just a little better than before. George and Arlene moved to Portage, Mich., in 2023.
Private services were held in Portage and George was laid to rest in Fort Custer National Cemetery. If you'd like to contribute to a cause in his memory, please consider The Parkinson's Foundation or Three Oaks Spokes Bicycle Club.
