George O'Connor Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory (43rd St. Chapel) - Bradenton on Mar. 26, 2026.
George O'Connor, a cherished member of our community, passed away on March 22, 2026, at the age of 76. George was a beacon of warmth and laughter, born on March 2, 1950, in Buffalo, New York. As a young man, he'd had enough of the cold, so he relocated and spent most of his adult life on the sunny shores of Anna Maria Island. He departed this world surrounded by the love of his family.

George leaves behind a legacy of love and joy. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan, and their son, Michael, along with Michael's wife, Katie. His adored grandsons, Caleb and Quinton, will miss his playful spirit and endless affection-he was so proud of them. George's brother, David, and his wife, Mary, along with nephews David and Billy, mourn his passing, as does his sister-in-law, Sharon. George was predeceased by his dear parents and his twin brother, Billy, who no doubt welcomed him with open arms.

George graduated from Bishop Neuman High School in Buffalo and then attended Dean Junior College in Massachusetts. He found more enjoyment traveling to Boston on the weekends than he did in his schooling, so his college career was short-lived. After his time at junior college, he enrolled in the Marine Reserves. Following basic training, he quickly discovered his talent for sales. His professional journey was marked by his role as a Sales Manager, where his charismatic personality shone brightly.

George's dedication to his community was unwavering. He served as past Chairman of the Anna Maria Island Community Center Board and was honored as the City of Anna Maria Citizen of the Year in 1991. His passion for mentoring youth was evident through his time as a Little League Coach, and he made a lasting impact as the Co-Founder of the O'Connor Bowling Challenge. He was also a longtime McKechnie Club president and season ticket holder. Additionally, George was an active member of the Manatee Chamber, reflecting his commitment to local business and economic growth.

An avid sportsman, George enjoyed golf, hunting, and fishing-activities through which he forged countless friendships and shared many laughs. Those who knew George would describe him as loving, funny, and friendly-a man whose presence could light up any room and whose humor brought joy to every occasion.

As we bid farewell to George, we reflect on a life lived to the fullest and remain grateful for the time we shared with him. A true friend and beloved community leader, George will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

The O'Connor family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Tidewell Hospice for their support and kindness during George's final journey.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 4030 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice or the Anna Maria Island Community Center.
