George P. Papamichael passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, at the age of 74, surrounded by his loving family at his home.
George was the devoted husband of Elizabeth for 48 beautiful years, the love of his life. He was a loving and proud father to Irene; Peter and his wife Sandy; and Anna and her husband Jonathan. He was a cherished grandfather to Violet, Jack, Ellie, George, and Paul, who brought him endless joy and pride.
George was a loving and honest man in every way. Patient and kind by nature, he deeply valued his family and treasured every moment spent with them. A man of strong faith, George lived his life guided by his morals and beliefs. He held a special place in his heart for St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Jackson Heights, New York, where his faith was nurtured and sustained throughout his life.
George was deeply social in his own way and found happiness in life's simple pleasures, such as bowling, gardening, traveling, and enjoying meaningful moments with good company.
Known lovingly by many as "Mr. Fix-It," George had a natural knack for problem-solving-both big and small. Whether repairing something around the house or offering thoughtful guidance, he was always ready to help. His resourcefulness, patience, and willingness to step in made him someone others relied on and deeply appreciated.
Born in Nikia, Nisyros, Greece, he carried his birthplace in his heart throughout his life. On April 30, 1960, he immigrated to the United States with his mother and siblings to join his father and older brother, beginning a new chapter while never letting go of where he came from. He always found time to return to Nikia and reconnect with his roots, taking great pride in sharing his heritage and traditions with his children and grandchildren so they too, would feel that deep connection. Another beloved place was Jamesport, New York-his happy place-where countless memories were created with family and loved ones.
A simple yet deeply endearing soul, George stood out through his grace, humility, and the genuine kindness he showed to everyone around him. He always made time for others and touched many lives through his quiet generosity and warmth. He was truly a man of many simple gifts.
May our Good Lord grant him eternal rest, as George is reunited with those who went before him. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
