George Nicholas Paraskevas, a cherished family man, respected professional, and dedicated member of his community, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 9, 2025, in
Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on October 8, 1932, in Edinburg, Texas, George's life was a tapestry of devotion, service, and joy that touched many throughout his 92 years.
George's early life in Edinburg was filled with the warmth of a close-knit family. He was the beloved son of Nicholas Paraskevas and Evangeline Paraskevas Vasos and cherished the guidance of his stepfather John Vasos. Although he was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Magdeline Singer, brother, Alex (Jean) Paraskevas, his beloved mother-in-law, Anastasia Strates Paul, and brother-in-law, Sam Strates, the legacy they created together remains a beacon of love and family unity.
An Army veteran serving in Korea, George served his country with honor and pride before embarking on a career in education and as a volunteer firefighter. He graduated from Pan American University, where he honed his passion for science and teaching. As a Chemistry teacher, George inspired countless students with his enthusiasm for knowledge and his unwavering commitment to their success. His professional journey also led him through the realms of retail management and real estate, where he excelled as a Realtor and Appraiser, always guided by integrity and a strong work ethic.
George's life reflected his faith and his Greek heritage. A dedicated member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, he lifted his voice in song with the church choir and served his congregation with a spirit of generosity. His devotion to the church was a testament to his belief in giving back and supporting others in their spiritual journey.
Family was the cornerstone of George's life. He was a loving husband to his wife of 63 years, Peggy; father to his daughters, Litsa (Robert) Guerra and Staci (Scott) Jones, and his son, John (Marci) Paraskevas. George's role as a father and grandfather was characterized by his unwavering support, guidance, and the joy he found in their accomplishments. Left to cherish his memory are his six grandchildren, Megan, Dimitri, Matthew, Samantha, Madelyn and Austin; two great-grandchildren, Louie and Pressley; his sister, Nancy (Pati) Paraskevas; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
George's zest for life extended beyond his professional and religious commitments. He was a man who cherished the simple pleasures of life, such as traveling with family and friends. His love for travel took him to new places and cultures, creating memories that his loved ones will hold dear forever.
As we bid farewell to George, we celebrate a life well-lived-a life of love, dedication, and service to God. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his legacy will live on through the lives he touched. George's passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family and friends, but they take comfort in knowing that his was a life filled with purpose, joy, and an abundance of love.
