George Parrish Obituary
It is with sadness of heart, but with praise to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that we announce the eternal homegoing of our beloved 'Pappaw', George Cecil Parrish. He made his journey from this life to the next on November 6, 2025.
Pappaw was a very quiet but a giving and charming man who deeply appreciated everything that was done for him in love. He loved the Lord and his church. He was faithful and devoted to his faith, family and his extended family as well. His knowledge of mechanics served not only him but so many others over the years. His love for trains and cars was always on beautiful display in his home.
He will be missed but the love and memories we shared together in this life are precious gifts that will never be lost. "To God be the glory for the great things He has done;" and to our beloved, may you rest in peace in His loving arms until that great day of redemption when we shall see you again!
Pappaw was predeceased by very special loved ones that shared his faith, and he now rejoices with them in the presence of their Lord: his parents, Charles and Thelma Parrish, his loving wife of 37 years, Mary Jane Lamb Parrish, his sister, Patricia Parrish Bowen (Clarence), brothers-in-law, Blaine (Mac) McLellan and George Calvin Hill, Jr. A son-in-law, Marshall Abell, grandson, Todd Abell and the loving and special daughter, Gloria Lamb Baber.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing and to remember all the good times, his two loving and compassionate sisters, Ramona McLellan and Lee Hill of Greenwood, SC; and his loving stepchildren, Jim Lamb (Brenda) of Conway, SC, Becky Abell Yancey (LeRoy) of Lynchburg, VA and Rich Lamb (Linda) of Fort Pierce, FL.
He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and unofficially adopted grandchildren and great-grandchildren that love him dearly.
Several family members worthy of mentioning due to their loving sacrifice in so many tremendous ways that aided him in his latter days are Calvin and Shannon Hill, Sara McCoy, Celia Black and Amy Cromer.
The family will receive friends 2:00PM - 3:00PM, Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Emerald Baptist Church, 110 E. Laurel Ave, Greenwood, SC 29649. A service to celebrate Pappaw's life will begin at 3:00PM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Craig McDaniel and Rev. Jim Lamb officiating. Graveside services will be 2:00PM, Saturday, December 6, 2025, in Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, VA 22911 with Pastor Todd Cothran officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations in memory of Pappaw be sent to Crescent Hospice, 1348 Bypass 25 NE, Greenwood, SC 29649.
