Obituary of George C. Paskoules
September 9, 1958 - March 6, 2025
George C. Paskoules. Age 66 of Southgate.
George and Janet or Janet and George. There was no knowing one without the other. That is how it has been since their meeting in the mid 1970's. With greatest sorrow, the family would like to share we lost both of them on the same day, within hours of one another.
In life, you could not speak with one of them and not know about the other. Through the ups and downs of life, somehow they made it through. Married in 1978, George and Janet eloped in Daytona Florida. Then the adventure started. Janet was a long-standing cashier then baker with Kroger while George worked largely at Ford Motor Company as an Assemblyman.
After leaving Kroger, Janet had a well-regarded reputation of providing in-home care to several neighbors in River Rouge. Always busy, on the go and a conversation starter, Janet assured that not only her family was taken care of, but the individuals she cared for were also well cared for. In later years, Janet became a cancer survivor, having a laryngectomy and subsequent radiation. She was a 'star' patient case for Henry Ford's Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery department, exceeding everyone's expectations for years. Even with having no voice box, Janet still spoke a mile a minute; you could not slow her down. She did extraordinarily well for over 12 years.
George worked at Ford Motor Company for 30 years until his retirement in 2022. George was also known for being on the go and really coveted his alone time just to drive around running errands. If you asked him to do something, he would. In addition to his regular employment, he worked at local party stores making extra money. Known for being all about his cars, George found great pleasure in making sure his vehicle was clean and shiny. George loved everyone and had a sincere love for his parents. He put his parents before himself, making sure they were tended to. In more recent times and as his parents grew older, he went to Greece with his parents to assure they could get settled and safe and enjoy their months long summer vacation.
George and Janet married in 1978 and eventually settled in River Rouge. Right next door to Janet's beloved Nanny and down the street from George's parents. They both loved being close to family.
George and Janet divorced in 1984, Janet marrying Ray Sullins. From this union came two wonderful children, Billy Ray and Leann. Janet also gave birth to a son, Matthew, who unfortunately passed shortly after entering this world. Ray was an affectionate father and provider. Known to be a prankster, son Billy recalls jokes that were 'uniquely Dad'.
Divorcing in 1985, Janet and George remarried in 1992. Co-parenting with Ray, one would think there would be awkwardness, but there was none. Despite George not being a biological father, the kids were lucky enough to grow up with two affectionate dads. This was also true for their two grandchildren who affectionately called George and Janet Papou and Yia Yia. They loved being grandparents and spoiled them endlessly. As time progressed Ray and George became very close. Ray passed away in 2023 and his death was very difficult for both Janet and George.
In more recent years, both Janet and George had significant health challenges. After retirement, George became Janet's caregiver along with help from Billy and Leann. As difficult as it was to see them both go through their challenges, their passing on the same day does not seem so strange. It's always been Janet and George. With Ray and the blessing of children, somehow, it all worked out.
Janet and George are survived by their children, Billy and Leann Sullins (Andrew) and grandchildren Kennedy and Marley, by George's father, Constantine (Gus) Paskoules and brother Billy Paskoules (Matthew). They are also survived by several nephews, nieces, cousins and great nephews.
– May their memory be eternal
With Love,
Your Brother Billy
