George W. Payne

August 25, 1961-February 11, 2026

George W. Payne, 64, of Loogootee, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Sycamore Care Strategies in Loogootee.

Born August 25, 1961, in Washington, Indiana, he was the son of Charles J. Payne And Ruth Ann (Sanders) Willyard.

George graduated from Shoals High School with the class of 1981.

He worked at United States Gypsum as a loader in the mill and board department before retiring in 2022.

George married Darlene Underwood on August 21, 1981, and she survives.

He was a member of Antioch Bible Church in Washington. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard.

George enjoyed motorcycle riding, traveling on missions in Mexico, recycling cans, and spending time with his family.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Darlene; children, Amanda Kay (Thomas) Miller and Ashley Marie Payne; four grandsons, Isaiah, Xavier, Maverick, and Nathaniel “Goose” Miller; fur babies, Milkshake and Bear; nieces, Missy Dorsey, Amy Troutman, and Christie Padgett; nephews, Billy Grafton, Chad Grafton, Daniel Jackson, and John Underwood; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charlie “Junior” Payne; and great-nephew, Rolen Wilson.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 16, 2026 at the Queen-Lee Chapel of George Funeral Care with Pastor Keith Meece officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday at the Queen-Lee Chapel in Shoals.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Martin County Humane Society, in memory of George W. Payne.
