Abilene - George Ervin Pittard, 79, of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025. George was born November 24, 1945, in Oakland, California, to Ruth Clark Pittard and Dr. Knox Pittard. He attended Monterrey Tech in Mexico, the University of Valencia in Spain, The Citadel in South Carolina, the University of Texas at Austin (B.A.), and the American Institute of Foreign Trade (B.A. of Foreign Trade).

Beginning his career as founder of Pittco, Inc., he developed retail shopping centers in the Dallas-Plano area for almost fifteen years before moving on to New York and then eventually making his home in Japan for almost thirty years. He was fluent in Spanish and always enjoyed engaging another Spanish speaker any chance he could.

George lived an extraordinary life full of escapades and adventures. Over the years, he traveled to 56 different countries (and lived in four), wrote short stories and travelogues, and completed an entire screenplay called SOCIAL CIRCLES. He was a member of Boodle's in London, The Union Club in New York, Doubles in New York, The Argyle in San Antonio, The San Antonio Country Club, and the Fort Worth Club, just to name a few. He was a very proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Four years ago, George decided to return to Texas and made a home in Abilene. He enjoyed spending time with his niece and grandnieces and working at Market Street as an "Egg-secutive" on "Aisle Egg." He did not own a television, but read with a passion until his death and always kept copies of his famous reading list to happily pass on to coworkers and customers alike. George was a kind and unique person, and he will be missed.

George was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Pittard Dent. He is survived by his brother, Knox Pittard (Brenda) of Anson; his niece, Lori Pittard (Kelly Gill) of Abilene; and grandnieces Alijah Cox (Tyler) of Abilene and Easton Clemens (Mitch) of Cypress.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and doctors at Hendrick Hospice Care.

A celebration will be held Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at 234 Cedar Lake Dr., Abilene, Texas.
