George Polk Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dunlap Memorial Home on Dec. 29, 2025.
George Scott Polk, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, was unexpectedly called home to his Father's Kingdom on December 25, 2025, at the age of 66.

George was born on December 1, 1959, in South Bend, Indiana, to Glenn and Ruth (Piquette) Polk. The youngest of eight children, he completed the Polk family with joy. As an infant, George and his family relocated to Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, where he would grow up and spend the majority of his adult life. He attended school in Fort Atkinson before enrolling at Holy Name Seminary in Madison, Wisconsin, graduating in 1978.

Throughout his life in Fort Atkinson, George formed many lasting friendships. He treasured those close to him and loved sharing stories from his younger years and adulthood. An avid storyteller, George was known for his favorite tales-often repeated with the same enthusiasm every time.

A devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, George's faith was central to his life. He gave back to his church community in many ways, including active involvement with the Knights of Columbus Council #3396. Spending time with his fellow Knights and sharing their love of faith was something he held dear. In his later years, despite mobility challenges, George continued to serve his church by caring for the grounds on the riding lawn mower-a role that allowed him to contribute while enjoying time outdoors and a faith-filled distraction.

George held many titles in his life, but the one he cherished most was "Poppy." His grandchildren were his greatest joy, and he shared a special bond with each of them, no matter the distance. From inside jokes with Brayden and Christian, to laughter shared with Eddy during visits, to carefully selecting the perfect gift for Mays, his grandchildren never failed to bring a smile to his face.

George's storytelling, jokes (even when he was the only one laughing), bear hugs, friendship, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

George is survived by his children, Molly Polk of Johnson Creek, Wisconsin, and Regan (Tori) Polk of Bend, Oregon; his grandchildren, Brayden and Christian Polk of Johnson Creek, and Eddy and Mays Polk of Bend, Oregon; his siblings, Mary (John) Witte, John (Nancy) Polk, Judy (Gary) Weimer, and Jim (Susie) Polk; brothers-in-law Bruce Andryszcyk and Paul Streib; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Ruth (Piquette) Polk; his daughter, Bridget Polk; his sisters, Theresa Streib, Peggy Hill, and Anne Andryszcyk; and his brother-in-law, Craig Hill. The family takes comfort in knowing they were there to welcome George at heaven's gates.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A private burial will be held at a later date.
