George Poulos Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Landmark Funeral Home on Mar. 6, 2026.
Rev. George Evangelos Poulos, Jr. passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026. He entered the loving arms of his Savior at the age of 68, surrounded by his family.

George was born on April 17, 1957, in Washington, D.C. He was adopted by the late George Evangelos Poulos, Sr. and Nina Poulos, née Bacaling, with whom he moved to Miami, Florida, at the age of two. He graduated from Miami Norland Senior High School as part of the Class of 1975. He attended the University of Miami for a year, then, feeling called into the ministry, completed his degree at Miami Christian College. He did his seminary training at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, where he also served as the student body president.

George faithfully served as a Lutheran pastor for 42 years and helped start two medical laboratories, one in the 1980s and one in 2000. During his ministry, he served as vicar at Lutheran General Hospital (Chicago), Christ the King Lutheran Church (Miami), Trinity Lutheran Church (Miami), Holy Cross Lutheran Church (North Miami), and Saint Mark's/Gloria Dei Lutheran Church (Hollywood and Davie).

On February 12, 2000, George married Virginia "Ginger" Poulos, née Gravlin. Together they were blessed with four children: Nina, James, Thomas, and Daniel. George loved his family dearly and made it known to everyone he met that they were the most important aspect of his life after Christ.

George served every congregation he had the privilege of being called to with faithfulness and diligence. He most recently served as senior pastor of Saint Mark's Lutheran Church from April 2005 until its merger with Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Following the merger, he served Gloria Dei Lutheran Church from 2011 to present, first as associate pastor and later as senior pastor.

George will always be remembered for his presence, kindness, humor, and unwavering commitment to his friends and family. He was deeply involved in the lives of his children and their many endeavors, and he became a friend to everyone he encountered.

George always placed his faith at the forefront of his life and made it known to everyone that he loved Jesus, Jesus loved him, and Jesus loved them as well.

He is survived by his wife, Ginger, and their four children: Nina, James, Thomas, and Daniel.
