George Pryce Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 7, 2013.
Mr. George Wesley Pryce passed into the presence of the Lord on July 7, 2013. He was 95 at the time of his passing. George was born October 22, 1917, in Philadelphia. He was born again in 1937, when he surrendered his life to his Lord Jesus Christ. He thus began a life of Christian service that saw him become an ordained deacon who worked in family ministries, a Sunday School teacher, a Meals-On-Wheels volunteer, and a director of the Russell Home for Atypical Children. In 1941 George entered the Army and served in the Army Air Corps throughout WWII. While in the Army, he met, wooed, and wed a petite southern belle named Mary Hodge with whom he enjoyed 67 years of marriage. When the war ended George began his professional career by going to work for the Department of Defense, setting up residence in Virginia. In 1950 George began college under the GI bill while still working for the DoD. He moved to a position with the Office of Naval Research in 1952 and continued his college studies. He earned a bachelor's in business administration from American University in 1958. George accepted a position with the Naval Training Device Center in Orlando in 1965 and relocated with his family. He retired from his Government career in 1973. Retirement allowed George and Mary to travel and to devote time to the charity work they both loved. In 2010 they moved to the Spring Haven Retirement Center in Winter Haven, FL. Mary left this life to enter heaven in July of 2010. Mr. Pryce is survived by his sister Uldine Long and by his children G. Wesley Pryce (Laura), L. Joy Shoup (Randall), and Barbara P. Newberg (Edward) as well as 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. George Pryce's family and friends will celebrate his life in a memorial service at Northridge Church in Haines City, FL at 6 p.m. on Thursday July 11. Donations in Mr. Pryce's name may be sent to the Russell Home for Atypical Children, 510 Holden Ave, Orlando, FL 32809.
