George "Squige" Quigley passed away on October 28, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Throughout his illness, he remained a model of kindness, grace, humor, and enduring love for family and friends. Born April 24, 1954, to Alicia and George Quigley, Squige was the second of three sons and spent his entire life in and around Tuckahoe, NY, graduating from Tuckahoe High School in 1972.
He cherished deep and lifelong friendships, and his company was always marked by laughter and good stories. Squige built a distinguished 40-year career with Verizon, beginning as one of New York State's first male Phone Operators and later becoming an Underground Lineman based at 40 Washington Ave. For more than 35 years, he was revered for his skills, warmth, and steadfast union advocacy-serving as a proud member and Shop Steward with CWA 1103. He took greatest joy in his friendships at work, often claiming that "lunch" was his best on-the-job experience.
Famed for his ready smile and generous spirit, Squige never had a bad word for anyone. He offered help to friends in need, faced his health challenges bravely, and never complained. He leaves behind an infectious smile and a fun-loving approach to life that will be dearly missed.
Squige is predeceased by his parents, Alicia and George. He is survived by his beloved daughter Erica, former wife Kathy Rao, and brothers Jim (Lori) and Bob (Cathy). In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care.
