It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of George Rivera Jr., with family and friends by his side, on October 24, 2025 at the age of 75.
George was born March 9, 1950 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to George Sr. and Angelina Rivera. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. George will be greatly missed and remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Michele, his daughter Nicole and husband Ian Smith, his son John Rivera. Grandchildren Jaxon and Rylie Smith, Jaylen Rivera, LeeAnn Marks and Candice Rivera. He is also survived by his sisters Gloria Marquez, Joann Romero and Isabel Barela. George was proceeded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Angelina, son Georgie and siblings Helen, Jimmy and Danny.
George was well known for his devotion to family, wisdom and witty sense of humor. He had many talents and hobbies that included wood working, building, golf, cooking, singing, dancing and playing guitar. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. George was a valued employee with a 36 year career at Sandia National Laboratories. He received several awards for his contributions to Sandia and retired as a Distinguished Technologist. George was also known for being active in his community. Donating his time and resources to help organizations like Habitat for Humanity, lending a helping hand to family and friends in need and he would often stop to help strangers on the side of the road with car trouble. He taught his children by example that hard work, integrity and kindness to others were important values.
A viewing will be held Monday November 3, 2025 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Daniels Family Funerals located at 4310 Sara Rd Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
A rosary and mass will take place Friday November 7, 2025 at 9:30AM at St Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church located at 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW Albuquerque, NM 87114.
