George Roussel, III Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 17, 2010.
George Albert Roussel, III, a devoted husband, father and friend, passed away Friday, September 17, 2010 at the age of 90, in Bedford, Texas. Born January 26, 1920, in Memphis, Tennessee, he moved with his family to Bunkie, Louisiana when he was 13. He attended college at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (University of Louisiana, Lafayette), with post-graduate work at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MIT, and Tulane. Mr. Roussel served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, in the Pacific Theater of World War II (1942–1945), and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. His experience in radar led to his over 40 year professional career with Offshore Navigation Inc., New Orleans, and before retiring was honored to serve as President. He was a long-standing parishioner of St. Rita Catholic Church, in Harahan, were he served on the Finance Board and sang in the choir. He enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader. He was a faithful Rotarian serving as Treasurer, President and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a member of Colonial Country Club. Mr. Roussel was an uncommon man of unwavering honor and integrity. He was known as a faithful servant—selflessly benevolent, yet witty, warm, and artistic. His interests included golf, gardening, genealogy and his love of family. “The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them. (Proverbs 20:7) Mr. Roussel is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Dorothy Stokes Roussel, his children, George Albert Roussel, IV; Steven Andrew Roussel; Anne Roussel Fornea (Robert); and his sisters Kathryn Dupuy, and Polly Raymond. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Elizabeth Walters, Kathryn Casler, Wesley Fornea, Andrew Fornea, and 6 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn Ryan Roussel, and George Albert Roussel, II, his sister Peggy Mathews, and his brother Phillip Roussel.
