George Alfred Skelly, M.D.

Dr. George Alfred "Doc" Skelly passed away on February 9, 2026, in Sun City West, Arizona. He was 96. Doc was born on May 25, 1929, to Ivy Madeleine Chowne Skelly and George Albert Skelly in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Mary Ingram on October 28, 1950. Together, they raised their family of four daughters: Valerie, Gaye, Diane, and Vera.

Doc was a man of multiple God-given talents, one of which was his athleticism. In high school, he was an outstanding lacrosse player and was recognized as a Manitoba All-Star three years in a row. He also was an excellent curler, skipping many teams throughout his life, both in the USA and Canada. In addition to sports, Doc was an accomplished musician. He played the bagpipes, drums, and bugle equally well.

Doc graduated from Lord Selkirk High School in Winnipeg, and the University of Manitoba. He entered the Canadian Army and served for six years. He fought in the Korean War and attained the rank of Captain.

Doc then graduated from the University of Manitoba College of Medicine and shortly thereafter, moved his family to the United States. He spent several years in general practice before enrolling in the radiology program at the University of Minnesota. Doc enjoyed his career as an interventional radiologist, practicing in St. Paul and Virginia, Minnesota. He also earned his pilot's license and flew his own Cessna around the country, both on business and for pleasure. He retired in 1987, and he and his wife, Shirley, relocated to Sun City West, Arizona, where they lived until his death.

Doc is survived by his wife of 75 years, Shirley, as well as his four daughters, Valerie (Keith), Gaye (Sheldon), Diane, and Vera (Keith), all of whom reside in Sun City West, Arizona. Doc also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Ryan, Daniel, Trent, Tabitha, Tara, Jack, and Anne; as well as three great grandchildren: Archer, Edward, and Noelle.

Cremation was at the Camino del Sol Funeral Home in Sun City West, Arizona.
