In memory of
Sandy Doughton (Ward)

Dear Marilyn and Family, My deepest condolences to you and your family. David was a very special man. He was a wonderful boss, mentor, friend, and father figure. I was blessed to begin my professional career working for David, and while I was just at the start of my career, I knew my future bosses would have enormous shoes to fill as David was a one-of-a-kind treasure. I have so many wonderful memories of working with David at the American Volkssport Association (AVA) from business trips throughout the United States and going on adventures to see the local sights to working on putting a newspaper together. One of my absolute favorite memories was one year AVA had a conference booth at the AARP Convention that was being held in Anaheim, California that year. On the last day of the convention, David looked at me and said, "I know you've never been to Disneyland before. Take the rest of the day off and enjoy the park." I jumped for joy at fulfilling my inner child's dream of finally having the opportunity to go to Disney. He taught me you can have fun at work. We shared many laughs. David was a family man and spoke frequently and proudly of his wife, children, and grandchildren. I truly loved that about him. David brought tremendous light to this world. My heart is full of gratitude to have called him a friend. Sending love, prayers, and peace.

To all the Stewart families, rendering a genuine heartfelt condolence. David in his student days in Bay City was always soft spoken and mild mannered; he had oodles of friends and the utmost of respect from those of us that crossed paths with him. Will not be forgotten !! Booger Ham

My wife Connie was a member of the Daughters of The Republic of Texas for her entire adult life. While she was serving on the Board of Directors, she had the pleasure of working with David, who at the time was the Director of the Alamo. Aside from his many notable accomplishments, David was a proud Texan and was dedicated to the advancement of the Alamo and what it represented. While it saddens me, I also know he now joins members of his Texas family that have passed before him. Who knows maybe he'll get to meet Sam Houston!

My dear David, beloved brother, you have been such a special part of my life. Since the very day you were born until you left us to go with God, you have always been in my heart and prayers. I will miss you greatly but I know you are in a better place now with our Mom and Dad and Scott and my Dave, and all the others who have gone before us, I remember the day you retired from the Army in a swirl of red , white and blue smoke and a parade in your honor.....a beautiful day, and now we will celebrate your rise into Heaven and I know it will take you into the arms of God where you will be safe and happy, away from pain and strife, and you will be waiting for Marilyn and your children and all of us to come to join you. I will miss you so much, but will always love you and share our huge box of memories with all our family. With love I leave you, Cile

I was sad to read of David's passing. My brother, Gerald (Lon) Draper was a good friend of David's when they lived in Bay City. David lived just a block from us and my brother and he spent many hours together. Blessings for his family as they find peace and comfort in wonderful memories.
