George Stutts, age 87, passed away peacefully on December 27 in
Harahan, Louisiana.
Born in
Brookhaven, Mississippi, George was a proud graduate of John McDonogh High School, where his early involvement in ROTC set the foundation for a lifelong commitment to service. He went on to graduate from Louisiana State University, beginning a distinguished military career that spanned more than 30 years in the United States Air Force.
George rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, serving as a navigator and later as USAF Head of 33rd Rescue Squadron in Okinawa, Japan. His leadership, discipline, and dedication to mission and country earned him the respect of those who served alongside him and left a lasting legacy of service.
Following retirement from the Air Force, George continued to share his love of exploration as a part-time tour guide, a role perfectly suited to his greatest passion-travel. An enthusiastic and tireless explorer, he visited more than 100 countries and cities across the globe. His adventures were legendary among family and friends, whom he delighted with endless, animated stories delivered with warmth, humor, and unmistakable joy.
George is survived by his wife, Violette Stutts; his first wife, Mary Stutts; his sister, Susie Coleman Woods; his sons, George Stutts Jr. and Monty Stutts; his stepson, Ricky Tozel, and his three beloved grandchildren , Cameron Stutts, Kayla Stutts, and Quinn Stutts.
A Service will be held at the Garden Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr,
Metairie, LA on January 10, 2026 with viewing from 11-1 and followed by the funeral ceremony.
George Stutts will be remembered for his unwavering service, his boundless curiosity about the world, and his ability to bring people together through stories, laughter, and a shared sense of wonder.
