George F. Vance, 82, of Uniontown, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

A son of the late Irwin H. and Mildred J. (Blair) Vance, he was born on March 4, 1943, in Akron, Ohio.

George began his life’s work at the age of 11, following in his father’s footsteps. He became a precision machinist and devoted his career to the family business, Vance Precision Industries. George took great pride in his craft and was known for his meticulous work, steady hands, and deep passion for the trade.

George was a 1961 graduate of Ellet High School and later attended the University of Akron. He served in the National Guard, an experience he remembered with pride and warmth. Throughout the years, he delighted family and friends with the memorable and often humorous stories from that chapter of his life.

In his younger years, George was known for his love of drag racing and fast cars. He proudly owned and raced a 1969 L88 Corvette—one of only three remaining of its kind at the time he sold it in 1985 to purchase an Airstream motorhome. In doing so, he traded the roar of racing engines for family road trips throughout the Northeast, a decision that reflected his deep commitment to his family.

George loved roller skating, and his enthusiasm was unmistakable—especially when performing the “flea hop” to Dirty Laundry by Don Henley. For many years, he was a familiar face at the Skatery (later Foxboro Roll-Arena), the North Canton Skate Center, and rinks in Austintown and Brookpark. He enjoyed striking up conversations with young people, offering encouragement and the occasional bit of hard-earned wisdom, always taking time to connect and share a smile. George invited nearly everyone he met to join him for a roller-skating birthday celebration in honor of his 100th birthday on March 4, 2043—an invitation he never stopped extending.

George is survived by his wife, Shirley Newman. Left to honor his memory are his two daughters: Elizabeth (James) Parsons and their son; Georgi (Mario) Chauvin and their son, Vance; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Eugene (Cathy) Vance, Timothy (Lisa) Vance, and Kerry (Peggy) Vance.

In accordance with his wishes, no formal services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rollin Buckeyez Foundation (www.rollinbuckeyezfoundation.org). Nothing would have made George happier than knowing his memory will help children discover the fun, freedom, and friendships found on roller skates.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. It is the gift of God.” – Ephesians 2:8
