George Weiland Obituary

George Joseph Edward Weiland, Jr.

January 1947-March 2026

George Weiland of Tampa, Florida was a Glen Burnie, Maryland native. George grew up playing soccer, hanging out by the crabbing docks, and getting into trouble that only he could charm his way out of. Throughout his life, George prided himself on being a diligent servant – as a man of faith, an employee, a coach, a mentor, and a volunteer, among many other roles. He always knew how to strike up conversation, be it with an old friend or a new face at the grocery store. He loved to find a good deal and told anyone who would listen about his senior discounts. George enjoyed walking and staying active, reading his mystery novels, and "meditating" during the Rays baseball games. He never met a piece of chocolate that he didn't like; he made sure to only buy jumbo lump crab meat for crab cakes at home, and he faithfully cared for others until the very end.

Above all: George's utmost pride and joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Linda Mae, and his two children, Dana and Jason. George also gained a son-in-law, Brant, and a daughter-in-law, Jordan, as his children married, and two granddaughters: Danielle and Autumn, along with one grandson-in-law, Matt. George was also blessed with two great grandchildren, Lyla and Ty. In addition to this family, George was consistently supported and cherished by many loved ones, family and friends, alike. He was deeply grateful for extended friendships and relationships that long stood the test of time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in George's honor. One specific mission close to George's heart was through Metropolitan Ministries, Tampa.

Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Although somber, George wanted his life to be celebrated. A faithful man, George knew he was returning to his Heavenly Father.

Finally, in the wise words of G.W. himself: "Take one day at a time and help someone out when you can."

George was always there to share his knowledge and his quiet guidance I will miss him as he left a mark in this world and taught and lived by integrity and humor. I am so sorry for your loss but he will always be in your heart and memories until we all meet again.

Dearest Linda and family, you have lost a truly special person. The world seems more empty without George´s light in it. His volunteer spirit, his kindness and empathy were very appreciated by those of us who worked for him at USAA. The sight of George in his Elf costume added humor to our days. I am glad to have had the chance to know him. He will never be forgotten.
