George E. Wietting
Of Minooka, formerly of Joliet, passed away at St. Joseph Medical Center, Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at the age of 90 years. George is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Nevada M. Wietting (née Moore), his three sons Phillip, Ronald and Warren Wietting. His cherished grandchildren Casey (Noah) Lee, Ashley (Lars) Okmark, Brent (Nicole) Wietting, Sophie (friend Bradley Kincaid) Wietting, Nicole (Jason) Nelson, and Sabrina England. He also had the joy of 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, who brought endless joy to his life. George is further survived by his brother David Wietting and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Edward and Helen (Nee Werner) Wietting, a son Wayne Elmer Wietting, two daughter-in-law Denise and Cindy Wietting, three brothers and sisters-in-law Norman (Alice), Robert (Grace), M. LaVern (Roslyn) Wietting and Cookie Wietting. His sister and brother-in-law Dorothy (Marvin) Anderson. George was born June 27, 1935 at home in Joliet. He graduated from Joliet Township High School and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Nevada Moore in 1956. Together, they raised their family in Joliet and cherished their time spent camping and creating memories on their property at Belles Landing on the Illinois River. George was a mechanic with Operators Local #150 for 55 years. Beginning his career with Brown and Lambert Construction to help build Route 80, joining Banner Western Waste and finally retiring from Waste Management. George was deeply involved in his community and church. An ordained Elder with Westminster Presbyterian Church, he served on several committees, including the Property Committee and the Westminster Wanderers camping group. He also found joy in breakfast gatherings with the church men's group. Outside of his church involvement, George was an avid bowler, enjoying many years at Washington Lanes and later at Stone City Lanes. A true master craftsman, George was skilled in carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and vehicles. He took great pride in his ability to fix, build, and create. His hands-on approach to life and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need were hallmarks of his character. Lying in state at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1015 Winthrop Ave., Tuesday, December 2nd from 10:00 A.M. until time of services at 11:00 A.M. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery.
