GEORGE STEWART WILSON
George Stewart Wilson, age 91, of
Au Gres, MI, passed away on March 20, 2025, at 10:29 am. He was born on June 3, 1933, to the late Stewart and Eunice (Tyler) Wilson in Bay City, MI.
George grew up in Bay City and enlisted in the Army at 17, proudly serving his country during the Korean War. After returning from Korea, he was stationed at Camp Atterbury, where he met the love of his life, Flora Louise Isbell. The two moved to Chicago, where George earned his bachelor's degree in engineering from the Allied Institute of Technology,
After graduating, George and Flora settled in Bay City, MI, and George began his long and successful career as a Chief engineer with RWC. Over the next 48 years, George became known for his work ethic, dedication, and expertise. He was also a valued consultant within the company, often traveling for work. Before retiring in 2004, George worked from home for the last 10 years of his career. Though he was highly respected by his peers, George remained humble, often referring to himself as "just a dumb engineer." One of his colleagues fondly recalled how George was always focused and serious at work but could still share a quiet laugh when the moment was right.
In 1964, George made a memorable gesture to his wife, Flora, when he gifted her a cement mixer for Mother's Day. He told her it was for building their future home on the lake in Au Gres. Over the years, George, with help from his dear friends, built their dream lakefront home himself. In 1970, George and Flora moved their family to Au Gres permanently, where they enjoyed their lakeside life from there on out.
George had a passion for snowmobiling with his friends & fishing - particularly perch, walleye and ice fishing. Whether on the back porch in winter, overlooking the bay, or relaxing in a lawn chair soaking up the sun in summer, George always enjoyed his peaceful view while sipping "sudz".
Above all, George was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was known for his kindness, generosity, honesty, reliability, patience, and sense of humor. While he was often seen as reserved, those who knew him deeply felt the warmth and love he had for those around him.
George is survived by his daughter, Linda Sorenson; grandchildren, Shaun Sorenson and Leasha Sorenson, Bryan Wilson, Carl Wilson and Dennis Wilson; great-grandchildren, Bradley Sorenson, Layla Sorenson, Avery Sorenson, Keegan Gordin, Alanis Gordin, Arrianna Morrow, Paige Wilson and Brooks Wilson; In-laws, Loula Isbell Lee, Tom Arndt, and Shelby Isbell; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Stewart M. Wilson and Eunice I. Wilson; wife, Flora Louise Wilson; Son, George Michael Wilson, Granddaughter, Wendy Lee Morrow; sister, Barbara Jean Evans; and in-laws, Betty Tucker, Reuben Isbell, Peggy Arndt, and Shirley Underwood.
A memorial service to celebrate George's life will be planned at a later date.
George's family would like to express their gratitude for the love and support they've received during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, George. You will be greatly missed.
