George Hardie Wysinger, born on August 23, 1938, in Gary, IN, was a man of many admirable qualities. George's life was a testament of dedication, compassion, ambition, and creativity. His journey began in Gary, but he spent most of his life in Benton Harbor, MI, and a short time in Atlanta, GA, before retiring in Mishawaka, Indiana. A devoted committed community servant, George's influence extended beyond the confines of his family to touch many lives in his community.
George worked at Bibco Inc., where his ambition and dedication led him to a successful career in manufacturing until retirement. After retirement, he worked at Phillips 66. He harnessed his creativity in his hobbies, which included collecting electric trains and doing yard work, such as mowing and gardening. His love for sports was evident in his enjoyment of basketball, football, and golf. George was also known for his culinary skills, always willing to share his delicious baked goods and meals. His compassionate nature shone brightest in his willingness to help others, a trait that endeared him to many.
George's ambition wasn't confined to his professional life; he was a significant figure in city politics. In the 1960s, he became deeply involved in Benton Harbor's political scene, culminating in his appointment as a City Commissioner in the early 1970s, a role he held for over 30 years.
George met Ernestine in the late 1960's and were together for 55 years. He is survived by his son, Steven (Karen) Wysinger; daughters, Sharon (Clinton) Douglas and Jenny Wysinger all of
Buchanan, MI; his step-daughters, LaRisa Williams of Stonecrest, GA, Rosemary (Stephen) Brewer of Kansas City, MO, and Deborah Favors of Stonecrest, GA; and sisters, Judith Pollard and Mary (Steve) Wooden; special cousin, Dot Lamar; 14 grandchildren, including special granddaughter, Charmaine Jones; 18 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hardie and Geneva Wysinger; siblings, Virginia Bledsoe, Carolyn Wysinger, Larry Wysinger, Kenneth Wysinger, William Wysinger, Charlie Wysinger, and Rickey Wysinger; grandchild, Steven Wysinger, Jr; and step-son, Mack Forest III.
A visitation will be held on Friday, 10 Jan 2025 at 11:00 am EST at Hoven Funeral Home, located at 414 East Front Street,
Buchanan, Michigan, 49107.The funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm EST. Burial will be held at Crystal Springs Cemetery, Benton Harbor, Michigan.
