It is with deep sorrow that the family of Georgette Carannante (Kawas) announces her passing at the age of 76. After a successful stem cell transplant in June 2024, Georgette ultimately succumbed to post-transplant complications at New York Presbyterian Hospital, surrounded by her loving husband and daughters on February 8, 2025.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Georgette and Edmond B. Kawas Esq., Georgette was the eldest of six children. She spent her childhood on South Beach, where her father owned a seasonal concession stand. After the untimely loss of her father when she was just 14, Georgette stood by her mother's side, taking on the role of a second mother to her younger siblings.
Georgette met her beloved husband of 44 years, Anthony, in 1981. They resided in Mill Basin, Brooklyn at the time of their marriage, and shortly after moved to Staten Island, NY to raise their 3 children. They lived there until their recent move, in 2024, to Marlboro, NJ -Georgette's final resting place.
She was predeceased by her cherished son, John, and is survived by her devoted daughters Georgette and Nicole, son-in-law Larry, and precious grandchildren Brianna Noelle and Lawrence Anthony. She is also survived by her siblings Richard, Denise, Patrice, and Alyce; sister-in-law Laura; brothers-in-law Sal and Mario; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother George, step father Richard, and brother-in-law Luigi.
Georgette dedicated over 30 years to healthcare administration, where she began her career at Healthcare Associates and remained for nearly 25 years. She subsequently continued her career at Richmond University Medical Center as Manager of the ophthalmology clinic, where she later retired in 2018.
A woman of boundless love and vibrant energy, Georgette found joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She delighted in vacations, dinners, shows, concerts, and trips to Atlantic City. An excellent cook, she was famous for her delicious meatballs. Georgette's love for celebration was unmatched - she always went above and beyond for holidays and birthdays, making every occasion memorable.
She embodied elegance, grace, strength, and compassion. As the matriarch of her family, Georgette's courage and devotion were an inspiration to all who knew her. Her family is heartbroken by her loss but finds comfort in the lasting legacy of love she leaves behind.
