Georgia A. Borkes, 99, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 29, 2025. She was born on April 11, 1926 in
Indianapolis, Indiana to the late George and Henrietta Emmick.
She met the love of her life Herman Borkes while working at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. They wed on September 7, 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1996. After marriage, she worked at Eli Lily as a secretary typing orders for foreign shipments of medications retiring in 1956 become a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, William G. & Harold (Pete) Emmick and sister Bertha (Emmick) Sisson.
She is survived by her children, Randall (Susan) Borkes; Karla (Tony) Laws and Janel Borkes and four grandchildren, Jason Borkes, Adam Borkes, William (Emily) Laws and Anna (Phil Renke) Laws. She was overjoyed to become a Great Grandmother next month!
In addition to her love of her family; she loved working the daily puzzles in the newspaper. She also loved to work 500-to-1000-piece jigsaw puzzles and worked over 200 in the last few years. Another passion of hers was playing cards; she was always up for a "Good Game" of euchre. In later years, she enjoyed wrapping eBay packages for shipment and would keep note their destination. Dining out at her favorite restaurants was always something for her to look forward to!
Georgia was a lifelong member of Immanuel Church of Christ. She joined the Sewers group upon her husband's retirement and helped quilt countless quilts for over 20 years. She and her husband belonged to the "Mr. & Mrs." class and over the years enjoyed outings and travelling with the group.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM Sunday, June 1, 2025 at G.H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1605 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood. Services will be held privately for Georgia's family.
She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Health Network Foundation, Society of Nursing Excellence Fund, 7330 Shadeland Station, Suite 150
