Georgia Marie Popp, a beacon of kindness and generosity, peacefully passed away in her sleep on January 20, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on August 5, 1939, in La Grange, Texas, Georgia's life was a tapestry woven with love, service, and unwavering faith. Her final days were spent in Brookdale-Spring Shadows Memory Care in Houston, Texas.
Georgia's formative years were spent in the small community of Hostyn, Texas and then went on to graduate from La Grange High School. She furthered her education at a secretarial school in Houston, Texas. Her skills and dedication led her to a fulfilling career in downtown Houston, where she worked for an Oil and Gas firm. Georgia's professional journey was marked by her meticulous nature and the respect she earned from her colleagues.
Family was the cornerstone of Georgia's world. She took a hiatus from her career, embracing the role of a full-time mother with grace and joy as she raised her daughters, Denise and Kerri. During these years, she also ventured into entrepreneurship as an Avon Lady, sharing her warmth and charm with every interaction. As her daughters grew, Georgia returned to the workforce, this time in the halls of education as a high school secretary. She supported many principals and became a cherished figure among staff and students alike.
Beyond her professional life, Georgia was a woman of many passions. Her love for gardening was evident in her abundance of flower beds, a testament to her patience and nurturing touch. She was an avid bowler, her competitive spirit and camaraderie lighting up the lanes for many years. Canton weekends were a treasured ritual, as she delighted in the thrill of the hunt for unique finds and hand crafted treasures with her two best Canton buddies.
Georgia's faith was her guiding star, and she lived it out with fervor and commitment. She was a life time member of the St. Jerome Catholic Community for over sixty years. And also an active member of the Catholic Daughters Court Ave Maria 2001 (54 years), she volunteered countless hours, her efforts a reflection of her deep belief in their mission. Her generosity of spirit extended to her family when, upon retirement, she devoted herself to the care of her grandchildren, bestowing upon them the same love and attention she had always given so freely.
Georgia's presence was a gift to all who knew her. She was the embodiment of faith-filled living, her kindness a gentle force that left a lasting impact. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she approached life with a heart full of grace. Weekends spent in La Grange rekindled the fond memories of her youth, and she cherished these moments, connecting with her roots and the simple pleasures of life.
As we bid farewell to Georgia Marie Popp, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and love. She was a woman who illuminated the lives of those around her, and her legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Her journey on earth may have ended, but the seeds of goodness she planted will blossom for generations to come. May she rest in peace, secure in the knowledge that she was dearly loved and her memory will be treasured forever.
