To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2) A Time to Be Born (Ecclesiastes 3:3) Sister Georgia Lee Smith's journey toward this life began December 24, 1929 in Mississippi to the union of Reverend Eugene and Rebecca Lewis. Georgia was the fifteenth child of twenty-one siblings. A Time to Be Trained (Proverbs 22:6) Sister Smith attended and received her early education in Memphis, TN where she lived with her aunt Josephine Taylor. She continued her education and graduated from the Tunica, MS public schools. A Time to Be Saved (John 3:3) Sister Smith attended Sunday school and Church as a young girl at Christian Grove in Tunica, MS and was baptized as a teenager. Upon moving to St. Louis, MO Sister Smith and family united with Mount Zion M.B. Church under the leadership of late Pastor Baker and present Pastor Rev. Dr. Sammie L. Jones A Time to Love (Ecclesiastes 3:8) On December 5, 1948, Georgia was united in holy matrimony to Joe M. Smith. Georgia and Joe moved to Memphis, TN where she and her husband were blessed with two children, Jo Ann and Henry. She and Joe later moved their family to St. Louis, MO where she and her husband were blessed with four more children, Beverly, Kenneth, Edna and Cassandra. A Time to Serve (Matthew 20:4) In the early 1960's Georgia was employed as an Operating Room Technician at Starkloft/City Hospital #1. Years later Starkloft combined with Homer G. Philips to become one single unit, called Regional Medical Center. Georgia continued her employment in the medical field as an Anesthesiologist Supply Technician at Regional Medical Center. Sister Smith served her church faithfully. She was a member of the Mission Circle and the Open Hearts Ministries. She worked on the Mount Zion Health Unit for over forty years until her health failed her. A Time to Die – A Time of Peace (Ecclesiastes 3:3-8) Sister Georgia L. Smith was called home to rest, following a 5 month battle of a stroke while vacationing in Chicago, IL. She went to sleep in the loving arms of God on Sunday, January 16, 2011. She was preceded in this heavenly departure by her husband; Joe M. Smith, mother and father; Rev. Eugene and Rebecca Lewis, two sons: Henry and Kenneth, one son-in-law; Reginald Williams, one daughter-in-law; Sandra Smith, and two granddaughters: Tamara & Tracy. She is also preceded in death by eighteen of twenty-one siblings. Celebrating and Rejoicing In Her New Life Are: Four Daughters: Jo Williams, Beverly Smith, Edna Smith and Cassandra Gordon (Eddie); Nine Grandchildren; Donnell, Kimberly O'Neal (Arthur), Gregory, Diane, Damon, D'Andre, Valencia, Alexis and Ariel; Thirteen Great-Grandchildren; Deondre, Tamara, Reginald, Tiran, Eli, Tra-von, Amaura, Ja'Nya, Tyaunna, Tavyaun, Caia, Ethan & Trenton; One Great Great-Grandchild to be born March 2011; Journey Olivia Williams; Two siblings Rosie Lewis and Henry Lewis, and a host of niece, nephews and others relatives and friends. For the many people that knew her, Sister Smith was a loving and caring person. She never saw the negative of anyone, she didn't judge and she open her heart, house and finances to anyone she felt was in need. Sister Smith loved her church and was truly a Christian and child of God. She will be deeply missed. This Online Memorial has been created to commemorate the life of Georgia Smith.
