Georgia Macon Spruill
Georgia Macon Spruill was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was born on September 29, 1937, and went to be with her savior on April 7, 2024.
Georgia was the second of five children. She grew up in Randolph County, North Carolina, where she and her sisters worked on her family's dairy farm. After graduating from Ramseur High School in 1956, she moved to Minneapolis, MN, and took with her a lifelong appreciation for hard work and spirit of gratitude. In Minneapolis, she attended an airline school and was hired by Capital Airlines to work at the ticket counter at the National Airport in
Washington, DC. There she met Bob Spruill, a handsome young man from North Carolina who worked for Capital Airlines as an aviation mechanic. They were married on February 25, 1961. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Virginia Beach, when Bob took a position at Naval Base Norfolk, and Georgia transferred to the ticket counter at the Norfolk Municipal Airport, where she worked until 1964. From 1977 until she retired in 1998, she served as the secretary for the Kempsville Christian Church.
Georgia was a wonderful wife and mother; she was the heart of her family. She exemplified selflessness, quiet strength, loving devotion, and had a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. She enjoyed working in her garden and flowerbeds, growing and arranging flowers, crafting, and cooking and baking for family and friends. She made a positive impact in the local community through organizations such as the neighborhood garden club. Above all, she cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family, and they will be forever grateful for the wonderful memories she created for them.
Georgia had a strong faith in the Lord and was a longtime member of the Kempsville Christian Church. With great joy, she is now in the presence of the Lord and with Bob- the love of her life for 61 years- and others who have gone on before her.
She was filled with light, grace, and gratitude until the very end.
Georgia is survived by her son, Gregory and daughter-in-law, Kate; son, Staten and daughter-in-law, Nicole; daughter, Tracy and son-in-law, David Siegel; and her grandchildren, Macon and Rachel Spruill and Marlo, Parker, and Graham Siegel. She is also survived by two sisters, Sandra McGee and Charlotte Kivett. She is preceded in death by her parents, Franz and Edith Macon; her husband, Bob Spruill; and two sisters, Glenda Moffitt and Laverne Redding.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her loving caregivers, Kim Peebles and Latoya Brown.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 16, at 1 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, 23462. With burial following at Rosewood Memorial Park.
