Born on September 29, 1943, in Roswell, New Mexico, our beloved Mom, sister, and friend passed away peacefully in the early hours of May 24, 2025, in Mesquite, Texas, with her daughter Tina by her side. She lived a life filled with laughter, deep love, and heartfelt compassion. Known for her wonderful sense of humor, strong independence, and unwavering faith, she cherished her daughters, Tina Pierson and Sheila Grice, and adored her grandchildren, Corey Grice, Zenna Riojas, and Ricardo Riojas.
Georgia was born to George Everett Couch, a Baptist Preacher, and Floydene Partain, a Teacher and author. In Las Cruces, she met Billie (Bill) Wright, the love of her life. They married after only 34 days and moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, for Bill's Naval service. While there, their daughter, Tina Pierson, was born, and they befriended the Russell family. Following Bill's service, they relocated to Denton, Texas, where their daughter, Sheila Grice, was born. They later moved to Toledo, Ohio, for work and reconnected with the Russells, who became their "Ohio family" of over 60 years. After a decade in Ohio, they returned to Texas for job opportunities and resided there until Bill's passing in 2008, followed by Georgia's passing.
Our mother's life was incredibly full, far exceeding what we can fully capture. She had a passion for dancing, particularly the jitterbug. Her creative talents included crocheting, knitting, sewing, and many other crafts, but her greatest love was reading. When she began to experience vision loss, she took charge and sought out an eye specialist to manage her age-related macular degeneration. She was remarkably proactive about her health, addressing concerns from potential dementia to mobility issues, right up until the end. Demonstrating her independence, she made the decision to move into assisted living herself, relieving her daughters of that difficult choice. She truly was her own best advocate.
The family expresses profound gratitude for the exceptional care provided over the past five and a half years. They specifically wish to acknowledge the outstanding service from hospitals and, in particular, Cambridge Court Senior Living. The caregivers at Cambridge Court were truly exceptional, and the resident developed close bonds with the entire staff, including leadership, caregivers, kitchen personnel, and custodial team. The family highly values the support of the facility but, above all, the dedicated staff who created a warm and familial environment.
Georgia is preceded in death by her husband, Billie Wright; mother, Floydene Partain; father George and bonus mother, Ocie Couch; sister, Marthy Black; nephew, Robert Boyd; and her uncle Calvin and aunt Marion Partain.
Georgia is survived by her daughters, Tina & husband Jerry Pierson, and Sheila Grice; grandchildren, Corey Grice, Zenna & husband Ricardo Riojas; sister, Becky & husband Mike Messer; niece Kathryn & husband Karl Ancel; Michael & wife Addison Messer; great nephews, Ben & Jack Messer; nephew, Matthew & wife Christina Messer; and great nephew, Taven.
In place of sending flowers, donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, one of her cherished charities, would be appreciated. She was known for her generous spirit and dedication to giving back to the community.

I just learned of Georgia passing away. She and I worked together at Strasburger for several years and she started coming to my church after her husband passed away. She also joined my life group until she started going to church on Saturday. Georgia was a sweetheart and I know you girls and the family will miss her so much! So grateful to know I'll see her again in heaven! God Bleaa y'all!
