Georgiana Elizabeth "Jean" Walcott Holloway was born on August 3, 1952, in Mandeville Manchester, Jamaica, daughter of the late John Stanford Elias Walcott and Virginia Elizabeth Butler Walcott. She was the first of six children and entered this world as a leader. After migrating to the United States, Jean met and married her late husband, Asa Holloway, and they had three children, Bryant, Virginia, and Lawrence.
Jean did not tiptoe through life, she charged through it with her head high, her voice clear, and her convictions unshakable. If you ever had the pleasure or the challenge of crossing paths with her, you knew one thing immediately, and that is she does not back down. Born with a deep sense of justice in her bones and grounded on strong family values and faith, Jean was never one to sit quietly when something needed to be done, whether it was fighting for her neighborhood, challenging political nonsense, or calling out hypocrisy wherever it tried to hide. She met life with a sharp wit, fierce loyalty, and a voice that carried. To the community, she was a force and showed up to meetings, marches, and rallies. Jean didn't just show up, she spoke up.
Jean believed deeply in fairness, in holding people accountable, and in building a world that didn't just serve the loudest or the richest. She didn't care about titles or small talk; she cared about truth, dignity, and making things better for the people around her. Jean mentored without preaching, debated without apology, and loved without condition; and she had no time for sugar-coating or empty gestures. Her love came in the form of showing up, speaking the hard truths, of refusing to let injustice go unanswered.
Jean leaves behind a legacy not written in awards or accolades, but in the countless
lives she touched, people she stood up for, spoke out with, and inspired to be just a little braver in their battles.
Jean is survived by a family who loved her, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephew; and she was admired by her beloved community in the City of Hartford.
We will miss her voice, her laughter, her stubborn strength, and the way she made all of us a little stronger just by knowing her.
Rest well, Jean. The fight is a little quieter now, but your fire keeps burning in all of us.
Her family will receive friends on Saturday, November 8, 10-11 a.m., with a Celebration of Life, 11 a.m., at the Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor.
Burial will be private.

Ahh, Duchess, I can still hear your voice loud and clear...come get me!! And off we'd go, help a family in Parkville or SAND. HPD knew you were there, your presence spoke volumes. But clearly when you flew to Jamaica to safeguard Ken and me was beyond belief. We toured your beautiful island, met your family and fell in love. Never knew a tiny lizard would throw you for a loop!! We didn't sleep for several days!! Braids finally got him. Girl, I will cherish these memories forever. My deepest condolences to your family.
Love Marie

I first met and served with Jean on the CHS Board of Directors. Jean was a dear friend and colleague. We fought many battles together on the CHS Board and in Hartford and Bloomfield politics. She was always on point. As I read her obituary it brought back so many memories of her. Jean will always be remembered as a fighter for human and social justice. I am saddened to learn of her death. May peace and love be with her family as they grieve their loss. Halesteen Graham Days
