Gerald Allred Obituary

Gerald Lyle Allred

July 14, 1945 - September 3, 2025

Bountiful, UT - Gerald Lyle Allred, 80, of Bountiful, Utah, passed away at home on September 3, 2025, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born July 14, 1945, in Ogden, Utah, to Weston Israelsen Allred and June Marie Fife.

As a child, Gerald enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing baseball. He would often describe his childhood as something out of The Little Rascals. He grew up in Ogden, Utah, and graduated from Ogden High School. Shortly after, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the North German Mission.

He later attended Weber State University, where he met June Hardy, the love of his life. They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on February 20, 1969, during Gerald's first year of medical school. In his journal, he described that day as "the best day of my life to that point." Their 56-year marriage was one of devotion, admiration, and love, and he often expressed that love openly in front of his children. June was the heart of Gerald's world-the girl of his dreams. He loved bringing her roses and cheering when he saw her singing on TV with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. While Gerald's roles often took him away, June was the steady strength at home-raising their children, managing the household, and supporting him in his responsibilities.

Gerald earned his medical degree from the University of Utah, served as a flight surgeon and Lt. Col. in the U.S. Air Force, and completed his pediatric residency at Primary Children's Hospital. He worked as a pediatrician at the Salt Lake Clinic and Intermountain Healthcare, where he also assisted with neonatal resuscitation. His compassion and skill blessed countless families.

Faith and service were central to his life. He served as Bishop, Counselor in the Stake Presidency, and Stake Patriarch. He was also a dedicated Scout leader and received the Silver Beaver Award.

Despite his busy career, Gerald was known for cheering at his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, concerts, and plays. He will be remembered for his wit, playful teasing, shaving cream fights, and songs for his kids and grandkids. He also loved fishing, photography, skiing, and spending time in nature.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Patricia and Michael, his son John, who passed away from ALS in 2024, and granddaughter Natalie. He is survived by his wife June; his children Benjamin (Jennifer), Emily (Ryan Ashby), Zachary (Tirzah), Erin (Shane Dangerfield), Matthew (Christina), and his daughter-in-law Nanette; 25 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and siblings Janet Tueller, Marilyn Gibby, Leslie Allred, Barbara Hansen, and Lori Griffin.

Viewings will be held Monday, September 8, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary (295 North Main Street, Bountiful, UT), and Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 9:30–10:30 a.m. at the Val Verda 4th Ward building (2633 South 50 West, Bountiful, UT).
