Gerald Bowcut Obituary

Gerald Eugene Bowcut

1945 - 2024

St. George, UT-Our beloved father, husband, and grandfather, Gerald Eugene Bowcut, 79, died on October 6, 2024 in St. George, Utah, after complications from a fall and a host of health challenges.

Gary was born on August 10, 1945, in Logan, Utah, to Eugene G and Velda Smith Bowcut. He grew up in Granger and graduated from Granger High School in 1963. Thereafter he served in the Utah Air National Guard and graduated from the University of Utah in 1971 with a degree in finance.

Gary married Rhonda Conrad on November 1, 1968, in Salt Lake City. Together they raised three sons, residing first in Colorado Springs, then settling down in West Jordan, Utah. He was a revenue officer then an appeals officer with the Internal Revenue Service, from which he retired in 2002. He and Rhonda spent their retirement years in St. George, where he golfed and they enjoyed traveling, rockhounding and exploring southern Utah together.

Gary was a dedicated husband, loyal friend, and devoted father. He gave his sons the gift of his time, from camping trips to home projects to lessons on car repair. His greatest joys later in life were his grandkids, who will fondly remember ATV rides in the desert with Grandpa. He had a strong work ethic and an even stronger sense of humor. We will miss him terribly.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda; his children, Brian (Jana) Bowcut, Jeremy Bowcut, and Matthew Bowcut; nine grandchildren; and sister, Barbara (Steve) Moffat.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Salt Lake area.

Dear Rhonda & Family,
My heart aches to hear of Gary's passing. I am so sorry for your loss.
I have such fond memories of being your long time next-door neighbors in West Jordan. I also. remember Gary as a childhood acquaintance, growing up in Granger, Utah. He was a skinny, little kid way back then. When I first saw him after we became next-door neighbors in West Jordan, I couldn't believe it was him - he had grown tall & handsome, no longer the skinny little kid I remembered. May all the beautiful memories of you & your loved-one comfort you & your family at this difficult time. And may Gary RIP until you meet again.
Love, Jeane
