Gerald Patrick Burkins

Gerald Patrick Burkins, fondly known as Jerry, graced this world with his presence on December 15, 1955, in Chester, Pennsylvania. On March 22, 2025, at the age of 69, Jerry left us, but not without leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and countless memories.
Jerry was a proud graduate of St. James High School, where he made lifelong friends and perhaps got into a bit of mischief along the way. Shortly after, he served our country with dedication in the Navy from 1974 to 1978, where he not only honed his skills but also collected stories that he loved to share.
Family was at the core of Jerry's world. He was incredibly proud of all his children and cherished them dearly. His love extended to his grandchildren, whom he adored. Though predeceased by his beloved wife, Jeannette, and his dear daughter Bernadette, he is survived by his children: Collin Burkins, Joseph Burkins, Shaun Burkins, and Shannon Darlington. He is also survived by his brother, John "Jackie" Burkins. His sister, Eileen Owens, preceded him in passing, but her spirit, like Jeannette's and Bernadette's, lives on in the family.
Jerry was an outgoing man who was always ready with a helping hand or a joke to brighten your day. He was that neighbor who'd help you fix your car or chat about the latest Eagles game, offering insights with the fervor only a true Philadelphia fan could muster. His passion for cars wasn't just a hobby; it was his Craft. He could spend hours tinkering and perfecting it and also teaching people a sliver of the knowledge he has of cars.
His love for Philadelphia sports was legendary, especially when it came to his Eagles. Game days were sacred, filled with cheers, occasional tears, and a whole lot of passion. Jerry was a dedicated fan.
We invite friends and family to join us in celebrating Jerry's life at Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, DE, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. A visitation will be held from 11 -12, with a service starting at 12pm. Inurnment will follow with military honors at Delaware Veteran Memorial Cemetery.
As we gather, let's remember the warmth he brought to our lives, the stories he shared, and the love he gave so freely.
Though he's no longer with us, Jerry's legacy will live on. Here's to a life well-lived and a man well-loved. Fly, Eagles Fly, Jerry!
